MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL
Spring 2024

Mission

The Middle School Baseball League's mission (referred to as the "MSBL") is a highly competitive middle school program designed specifically to enhance the skills of the most serious-minded baseball players. This is our 3rd season for teams with players from the same School Clusters and surrounding areas, thus creating a program of feeder systems for the High Schools. A primary emphasis is to provide the opportunity for the youth to have fun and enjoy baseball in an atmosphere where good sportsmanship, ethics, and competitiveness, mental toughness improves.

ABOUT US

History
During the pandemic, Dr. Jerryl Lawson saw a need to build a positive learning environment, teach valuable life skills, and inspire students to live active, healthy lives while implementing Social Emotional Learning through sports. The belief was that middle school students in Gwinnett County and surrounding areas should be allowed to play sports with their schoolmates. Dr. Lawson had noticed several flyers promoting middle school sports for several years but never any for baseball. After researching the sports Gwinnett County School District sponsored, Ed Shaddix, Director of Athletics, revealed that it only sponsored two middle school sports. Dr. Lawson soon learned the school district did not sponsor the sports flyers she had seen over the years; instead, they were sports leagues organized by community members. After endless weeks of research and preparation, Dr. Lawson created the Middle School Baseball League (MSB) in January 2022.
Dr. Lawson worked hand in hand with Malikah Freeman-Stevens, Shiloh Athletic Baseball Director, to organize the inaugural season for MSBL. All practices were held at Lenora Park in Snellville with the Shiloh Athletic Association. The Shiloh Middle School baseball team played games with the DeKalb County School District Middle School Baseball Program. Eric Evans, the Director of the DeKalb County Wade Division, is instrumental in the success of the MSBL.
